Get Involved

How you can help!

There are many ways you can get involved in our organization including volunteering or making a donation to help cover the costs of rescuing animals. Learn about what we need help with below and then apply to be a volunteer or make a donation if you'd like to contribute to our mission! Thank you!

About Transport Volunteering

Do NOT take your own pet with you on transports.  You may not know if the animal you are transporting has any health issues or if it will get along with your pet.  Be safe for both animals and you and leave your beloved navigator home this time.

You MUST have both auto and health insurance to be a transporter or foster.  Animal Rescue Relay is an LLC and cannot assume any accident bills incurred as a result of your interaction with the animal(s).

There are several dog breeds that MUST be crated during transport.  They are, but are not limited to: Akitas; Dobermans; German Shepherds; Rottweilers; Pit bulls; Chow Chows; wolf-hybrids.  A crate will be provided, but you may be asked to pick it up from a local pet store if you are transporter picking the dog up from the shelter or rescue organization.

All cats MUST be crated during transport.  A crate will be provided, but you may be asked to pick it up from a local pet store if you are transporter picking the cat up from the shelter or rescue organization.

About Other Types of Volunteering

While what Animal Rescue Relay needs most is transporters (and sometimes fosters), there are other ways to volunteer.  Perhaps you can help coordinate transport relays. Are you good with words or cameras?  Maybe you can help get the word out about shelter animals in need of rescue.  We’re open to any ideas you may have, as well.

About Adopting

Animal Rescue Relay’s transport services are FREE.  We are a network of volunteers who do what we do out of our love for animals and our desire to find homes for animals in need.  If short-term fostering is necessary, that service is also free.  If the situation warrants it, you may be asked to pay for:

  • Crate(s)
  • Leash(es)
  • Vet bills (during transit or fostering)

Fostering

While fostering is not the intention of Animal Rescue Relay’s charter, we have seen that it is sometimes necessary depending on the destination of the animal or the schedules of the transporters.  If an animal needs to be fostered for a short time (a day to a week or perhaps longer), Animal Rescue Relay will make every effort to reimburse the foster caretaker for food or incidentals the animal requires.  We are a network of volunteers and relay on donations to fund our rescues.  Any vet bills are expected to be paid by the adopter.

Donations

Donations are welcome for helping to cover our volunteers’ expenses:

  • Gas
  • Pet food
